Body contouring encompasses procedures that aim to enhance or restore a more defined profile of the abdomen, waistline and limbs.
Wherever skin elasticity is adequate, Body Contouring usually refers to liposuction or liposculpture as a means to even the fatty tissue deposits and reduce localised excess.
When skin laxity is a problem, carefully planned excisions like in abdominoplasty (tummy-tuck) or thigh-lift can dramatically improve the body contours - at the expense of more significant scarring. Arm reduction or brachioplasty can also offer significant improvement in the shape of the arm.
This process can be sometimes considerably improved with a combination of surgical and non-surgical techniques such as manual lymphatic drainage, computerised presso-therapy or endermologie. The aim here is to improve circulation to the skin and underlying fatty tissue and in the process accelerate the body's own healing mechanisms.
