Smartlipo gets smarter!
New generation laser, the Smartlipo MPX zaps fat and tightens skin. Great for six pack sculpting, love handles removal and chin chiseling.
What’s so great about this new laser?
Dual energy wavelengths are used which offer a combination of results:
- Melts the fat.
- Surrounding skin is tightened by stimulating collagen build up.
- Fat is then removed via a suction device.
What's so different about it?
1st generation Smartlipo didn't offer great results as it was inefficient. Traditional liposuction is aggressive with a long recovery period.
Smartlipo MPX’s 2 laser technology is more powerful giving instant results that continue to improve over a few weeks with the added benefit of skin tightening.
- Local anaesthetic only is required but talk to Angelica if you'd prefer a full sedation.
- Degree of energy used can be adjusted to suit each patient's needs unlike the 'one fits all' standard liposuction techniques.
- Fat removal unlike 1st generation Smartlipo this new technique uses suction to remove the targeted fat.
- Skin tightening when the laser passes under the skin collagen build up is stimulated. Collagen gives skin its elastic properties that are lost with ageing.
Is it safe?
In competent hands this laser fat removal system is completely safe but your practitioner must have undergone the Smartlipo MPX user course and be able to present a certificate. During treatment the surgeon's assistant regularly checks the temperature of the treated area to avoid overheating and worst scenario, burning.
(For you techies out there): What are the wavelengths used for laser lipolysis?
The Smartlipo MPX utilises both the 1064 nm and 1320 nm wavelengths.
The 1064 nm wavelength is considered the "gold standard" for laser lipolysis and has been used internationally for over 8 years. The 1064 nm wavelength is ideal for liquefying fat, coagulating and gently tightening the skin and allows these procedures to be done in a safe and controlled manner.
The 1320 nm wavelength is the "new kid on the block" for laser lipolysis and invasive tissue tightening. The wavelength received FDA approval in January of 2008. It has a higher absorption coefficient and is a more aggressive wavelength with a smaller window for safety.
Each of these wavelengths brings unique characteristics to the laser lipolysis procedure. One is better suited for liquefying and coagulating and the other is more aggressive and suited for targeted tightening.
What is the benefit of "blending" the two wavelengths?
This blending of wavelengths is actually called Multiplexing (MPX). Multiplexing or blending wavelengths gives you the ability to maximise safety, effectiveness and overall patient outcomes and satisfaction. It allows the physician the option to blend these wavelengths to achieve optimal results.
Am I a good candidate for laser lipolysis?
Ideal candidates are in good health, close too normal body weight and have realistic expectations for the results. If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, unhappy with the shape of your body and in good health then you're a candidate for laser assisted lipolysis.
Are the results permanent?
In general, all liposuction methods produce permanent results. The fat cells that are removed by liposuction do not grow back. Of course after liposuction, the clock keeps ticking, no procedure can stop the ageing process. Advancing age and an unhealthy diet/weight gain will produce the usual changes in the shape of the body, but the benefits of this procedure will always be apparent.
How many treatments are required?
For most patients, typically only one treatment is required. The session may last from 45 minutes to one hour for each area treated it is also an ideal choice for "touch ups" and revisions.
How much downtime will I have?
Immediately after your procedure you will walk out and be able to perform mild activities. Most patients are able to return to normal desk type work in 1 to 2 days and some patients are able to return to work the same day, depending on the area treated.
How much bruising or swelling will I have?
Using Smartlipo causes less tissue trauma and less inflammation, bruising and swelling are also minimised. SmartLipo uses only small punctures and does not use stitches, so patients experience less bruising and swelling than with the traditional liposuction techniques.
